What a lovely place! Well-located, superb value, and a great hybrid between a hotel, a hostel, and a homestay - taking the best of each. The host family were so lovely, and helped us with making the most of our travels (arranging various tours for us, including Mount Bromo and Ijen), providing great breakfasts for us each morning (with free fruit/coffee etc), whilst also helping us with our laundry, repairs, etc. We really enjoyed our time there, and would highly recommend it.

We stayed at Rumah Kalpataru for 6 nights and absolutely did not regret our choice. In a magnificent and peaceful setting, we were able to enjoy all the attractions of Yogyakarta (within walking distance) thanks to the hosts' many tips. They immediately understood our wishes and guided us throughout our stay with kindness and good humor. Special mention to the breakfasts which differ every day and allow us to discover delicious local flavors. Everything is available to make your stay comfortable: scooter rental, organized tours, laundry, unlimited tea and coffee. In short, go for it!

Hosts are so very welcoming and informative they are so good at helping plan excursions and information around the town. Breakfast was wonderful every morning and the site is beautiful. The room was clean and nice. Only down side is towels provided we’re a little small for drying off after a shower, and the water heater worked great, but when it was done… it would go quite cold quickly and take a bit of time to refresh and be ready to warm again. If you want to be in the middle of the culture and within walking distance of some great food (check out the chicken shack it’s our favourite). This is the place to stay.
